Network Coordinator, Germany – Nationwide Remote

About Us

Widen the Circle (WtC) is an NGO based in the United States as well as a registered association in Germany. Our work uses history and memory to address historical injustices and to counter contemporary forms of prejudice and discrimination.

WtC works with people in Germany and the U.S. who bring local histories of oppression and injustice to light and use them to inspire a more just present.

As an organization based in Berlin and Boston, we bundle and amplify the work of others through three core programs:

  • Obermayer Awards: Honors individuals and initiatives committed to preserving the memory of destroyed Jewish communities and combating antisemitism and prejudice

  • Widen the Circle Network: A platform for exchange, collaboration, and new forms of action in remembrance work

  • International Bridge-Building Initiative: An exchange program between U.S. and German civil society actors

Your Responsibilities

Widen the Circle is seeking a Network Coordinator as soon as possible, for 20–30 hours per week.

The position is primarily remote and allows for flexible working hours. However, it requires regular travel, especially to Berlin, as well as availability on certain weekday afternoons and evenings and occasionally on weekends.

The Widen the Circle Network emerged from the idea of connecting former recipients of the Obermayer Awards with other committed actors in remembrance work. It actively opposes antisemitism, racism, and other forms of group-based hatred. New projects, collaborations, and initiatives are continuously developed within the network.

The network meets regularly in various formats:

  • Winter Forum (February, online)

  • Summer Forum (June, Berlin)

  • Festival of Resilience (autumn)

  • Monthly online meet-up

In this role, you will independently design and implement these formats with the goal of strengthening civil society actors and connecting them sustainably.

You will work closely with the Operations Director and support coordination of the Festival of Resilience.

Your tasks include:

  • Expanding and maintaining a growing network of individuals and organizations in remembrance and anti-discrimination work

  • Designing, organizing, and running events (online and in-person, especially in Berlin)

  • Regular communication with network members (e.g., newsletters, event announcements)

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships in Germany

  • Assisting with administrative tasks for Widen the Circle e.V.

  • Contributing to fundraising and fund management, as well as developing funding concepts in collaboration with the Operations Director

Your Profile

  • Completed university degree (Bachelor’s), preferably in social sciences, humanities, political science, or cultural studies

  • Initial experience in project management and event organization

  • Confidence presenting to groups and experience with both online and in-person formats

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a clear, respectful, and audience-appropriate style

  • Structured, careful, reliable, and independent working approach

  • Fluency in German and English

  • Strong sensitivity and critical awareness regarding antisemitism, racism, and other forms of group-based discrimination

  • Interest in remembrance culture and historical work

  • Identification with the goals and values of Widen the Circle

What We Offer

  • Inspiring work environment: A dedicated, competent, and supportive team

  • Flexibility: Work-life balance through flexible hours and remote work

  • Professional development: Opportunities for personal and career growth

  • Work-life balance: Overtime compensation, 30 vacation days (based on a 5-day workweek), plus additional days off on December 24 and 31

  • Fair NGO salary: Compensation based on the German public sector pay scale (TVöD E11)

The position is initially limited to two years, with the intention to extend.

Diversity is central to our work. We therefore particularly encourage applications from Jewish people, BIPoC, individuals with personal or family migration histories, LGBTQIA+ individuals, Sinti and Roma, and people with disabilities.
